Abscesses

An abscess is a collection of pus that forms within body tissue as a result of infection. It typically causes localized pain, swelling, redness, and may be accompanied by fever or general discomfort.

What to expect

Discharge Instructions

  • You will receive prescriptions for pain relief, antibiotics, and wound care supplies.

  • Keep the wound clean and dry.

  • Follow dressing-change instructions carefully.

  • Do not apply creams or ointments unless advised.

  • Monitor for signs of infection.

Return to Activities

  • Light activities can usually resume within 3–5 days.

  • Avoid strenuous activity until the wound has healed and your doctor advises otherwise.
