Gastroscopy
A gastroscopy (also called an upper endoscopy) is a procedure used to examine the oesophagus, stomach, and first part of the small intestine (duodenum) using a thin, flexible camera. It allows direct visualisation of the upper gastrointestinal tract and helps diagnose causes of symptoms such as abdominal pain, reflux, difficulty swallowing, nausea, vomiting, anaemia, or bleeding.
Possible diagnoses are peptic ulcers, hiatus hernia, reflux disease, oesophageal candida, gastric obstruction among others. Biopsies can be taken during the procedure if needed.
