Gynecomastia

• Authorization will be arranged by the rooms or hospital staff.

• Fasting:

• No solid food for 6 hours before surgery

• No clear liquids for 2 hours before surgery

• Most chronic medications may be taken, except diabetic medication (to be discussed with your doctor).

• Inform your doctor if you are taking blood-thinning medication.

• Avoid anabolic steroids, recreational drugs, and alcohol before surgery if advised.

​The procedure is performed under general anaesthesia. Incisions are usually made around the areola to remove excess glandular tissue. Compression dressings or garments may be applied after surgery.

Management depends on the cause, duration, and severity of symptoms.

• Clinical assessment and imaging (ultrasound or mammogram) may be performed.

• Blood tests may be required to assess hormone levels.

• Mild or recent gynaecomastia may be managed conservatively.

• Persistent, painful, or cosmetically concerning gynaecomastia may require surgical excision of glandular tissue, with or without liposuction.

• Removed tissue is sent for histological analysis if indicated.

Surgical treatment usually takes 60–120 minutes, depending on the extent of surgery.

• Bleeding

• Infection

• Bruising or haematoma

• Scarring

• Changes in nipple sensation

• Asymmetry or contour irregularity

• Recurrence

• Unintended damage to surrounding structures

• Complications are uncommon. Contact the rooms promptly if you experience increasing pain, swelling, redness, discharge, or fever.

​This is usually a day procedure, and patients are discharged the same day.
